ST. CLOUD - Yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon's heavy rain put several St. Cloud city departments to the test.

Public Works Director Gerry Kaeter says they had to block of a number of streets due to flooding.

Kaeter says the storms sewers just couldn't handle the volume of rain in such a short period of time.  The Public Works staff will be out today cleaning-up the streets and checking for erosion.

He says St. Cloud had a similar flooding event about five years ago.

Yesterday's (Tuesday) heavy rainfall in the St. Cloud area caused the Sauk River to rise rapidly.  The National Weather Service's Hydrologic Department says the river went from three-feet up to nearly four-feet yesterday afternoon.  The river remains high today, but it's still well below the flood stage of six feet.
