Property Near Discovery School to be Recommended for Early Childhood Programs

ST. CLOUD - A new early childhood facility for the St. Cloud area school district could emerge on property near Discovery Community School in Waite Park.

District 742 Superintendent Willie Jett says the district considered 20-40 sites for the facility before narrowing the list.

The property on the Discovery site is already owned by the district.  Jett says an early childhood facility on the property wouldn't be combined with Discovery.

"There's some really positive things going for that site: the bus line, things are already established there like water and sewer, it's in the heart of District 742."

Jett says a site proposal will likely come to the school board during their upcoming May 11th meeting. Another option the district considered was buying a piece of land by 33rd and the Highway 15 interchange.

District 742 early childhood programs are temporarily located at Colts Academy in St. Joseph. The lease expires July 2017.
