Police Warn of Letter, Email Scams

Getty Images

The St. Cloud Police Department continues to take reports of possible money scam letters and e-mails being received by citizens.

The letters may ask for small amounts of money for research or for donations to organizations or may ask citizens to be “secret shoppers” in which citizens receive fraudulent money orders and are given instructions to cash them, send a portion of the money back to the organization and purchase and use household products and then rate their shopping experience.

You are urged not to respond or get involved in these or other similar requests. Citizens are urged to not disclose their bank information, social security card numbers or any other information, either by mail or telephone request.

You can report these and similar incidents to the police department if you wish.
