MEDINA, Minn. (AP) - Police have shot and wounded a man authorities say was wielding a knife in a western Minneapolis suburb.

The Hennepin County sheriff's office says the Medina Police Department was called about 12:30 p.m.

Thursday on a report of a suicidal person at a motel.

When officers arrived they found a man armed with a knife and fired shots.

Authorities say the man suffered unknown injuries and was taken to a hospital.

One officer was treated by medical personnel at the scene and released.

Along with Medina police, the Hennepin County sheriff's office, police from Plymouth, Orono and Corcoran, and Three Rivers Park Police responded to the scene.

The sheriff's office is investigating.
