BLAINE (AP) - Police say that officers responding to a report of a burglary in progress in Blaine shot and wounded a man who lunged at them with a knife.

The incident happened before 4 a.m. Thursday. Authorities say they received a call about an active burglary. The woman who owned the home had called 911 to say someone had broken in and she was locked in a bedroom while her boyfriend and the man were fighting in the kitchen.

Coon Rapids police officers responded and saw the burglary suspect with a knife. Authorities say the man lunged at officers and the boyfriend, and was shot by police. The man was transported to North Memorial Hospital and is expected to survive.
