ROCHESTER, Minn. (AP) - Investigators say the man who shot and critically wounded a Rochester woman appeared on her doorstep with flowers and a heart-shaped box shortly before she was wounded, staggered from her home and collapsed on the sidewalk.

Police say 71-year-old Fereydoun Behnam shot the 48-year-old woman inside her home Monday, then walked to his vehicle about a block away and fatally shot himself.

Reports police Capt. John Sherwin says the woman is hospitalized in critical, but stable condition Tuesday after undergoing surgery. She was not identified and police would not comment on her relationship with Behnam. Sherwin says she was shot at least twice in the upper chest.
