ROCHESTER -- Rochester police say a 56-year-old man has died while swimming in a triathlon.

Sgt. Jeff Sobczak says the man was swimming the sprint course at Foster Arend Lake on Sunday morning, the first leg of the Rochesterfest Triathlon. A pair of swimmers had grabbed ahold of the victim and were clinging to a buoy and yelling for help.

The Rochester Fire Department already had a rescue boat in the water and responded immediately. The man was brought to shore, but attempts to revive him failed.

The victim was from Rochester, but his name was not immediately released.
