MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Minneapolis police say a woman tried to hang a 1-year-old boy in a day care and then threatened to jump from a freeway overpass.

Police spokeswoman Sgt. Catherine Michal says the child so far as survived the attempted hanging, which happened Friday morning in a residential block of south Minneapolis. Michal did not have details on the boy's condition.

She says the woman fled in a minivan and struck a pedestrian and a bicyclist and kept going. The conditions of those two people were not immediately known.

Michal says the woman was on the Park Avenue overpass above Interstate 94 and was threatening to jump. Police negotiators were at the scene.

Authorities have not released the woman's name.
