ST. CLOUD -- The Police Chief in St. Cloud wants to remind parents and guardians about St. Cloud's social host ordinance.

The law, which was passed last year, makes it illegal for you to allow a gathering where underage people are drinking alcohol.

It goes a step further to make it illegal if you fail to make reasonable attempts to stop it or if you reasonably should have known in the event you were not present.

Chief Dennis Ballantine says along with criminal charges, there could be severe civil ramifications if you allow underage drinking on your property.

If you violate the social host ordinance it's a misdemeanor charge with a maximum fine of $1,000 and 90 days in jail.
