MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -  An early morning police chase in Minneapolis ended when a fleeing vehicle struck another car, killing the driver and injuring a passenger.

The Minnesota State Patrol says a trooper tried stopping a car for speeding and suspicion of drunken driving about 1 a.m. Monday. The driver fled the scene and the trooper began pursuit.

The patrol says the chase ended when the car broadsided another vehicle, killing the driver, 20-year-old Brody Sotona, of Spring Valley, Wis., and seriously injured a 24-year-old passenger from Stillwater.

The driver of the fleeing vehicle sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Sotona's family is questioning the need for the chase. But the patrol is defending its position, saying the pursued motorist was creating a public danger by speeding and driving under the influence.
