BEMIDJI (AP) - Police say a 19-year-old Bemidji State University student found unresponsive in the snow this weekend may have been outside for some time.

The Bemidji Police Department says the female student was discovered Sunday morning outside of an off-campus residence. The department says she was unresponsive and breathing.

According to a press release, the student's clothes were wet and there were other signs that she had been lying in the snow for a "substantial" amount of time.

Police say the student was taken to Sanford Bemidji Medical Center, and then transferred Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, North Dakota.

The department is continuing to investigate the incident and believes alcohol could have been a factor.

Last month, a Bemidji State student from Bloomington died after falling in a creek and being overcome by the cold.
