WAITE PARK -- The early stages of a second two-hotel development in Waite Park have begun.

Miller Architects is planning to build a 90-room Staybridge Suites extended-stay hotel and a 120-room Holiday Inn, including a restaurant and bar, on a vacant lot next to Menards along Highway 23.

During tonight's (Tuesday) Planning Commission Meeting a public hearing was held to discussed the final plat and planned unit development on the site.

Waite Park Planning and Community Development Director Jon Noerenberg says a few members of the board were concerned on the requested heights for the two hotel signs from the applicants.

He says the applicants were requesting heights of 50-feet and 40-feet for the two hotel signs, however members of the board were concerned on if height was appropriate for the area.

After further discussion Noerenberg says the board voted to approve the final plat and PUD as well as a 40-foot and 30-foot sign height requirement.

The final plat and PUD will now be brought to the city council for approval.

These two hotels are in addition to another separate project to build two hotels on the site of a trailer park, near 6th Avenue.
