"Little Shop of Horrors," a rock musical based on the popular 1960 movie, will debut tonight.

The part love story, part saga of a giant, blood-thirsty plant, includes an ensemble of professional actors and musicians from both central Minnesota and the Twin Cities.

Director Michael Kelley says the one thing they all have in common is talent.

Pioneer Place Executive Director Dan Barth seconds this. He says it's been one of his favorite shows for years. As such, he's wanted to stage the rock musical for a long time but wasn't sure the small stage could handle the necessary props - including the giant killer plant.

Barth says that problem was handled easily through the work of set designer Justin Hooper.

The cast includes 8 actors, both local and Twin Cities based, as well as an ensemble of local musicians who will perform the musical numbers live from behind the set.

"Little Shop of Horrors" will run for the next 4 weekends - for show times and ticket prices, visit Pioneer Place on Fifth's website.
