SARTELL -- Sartell residents may finally start to see improvements being done to Pinecone Road this year.

During tonight's (Monday) council meeting an update was given on some of the major improvements the city wants to start.

Last month, the council held a special meeting highlighting what intersections from Pinecone Road to 27th Street North were in need of major repairs.

City Engineer Mike Nielson discussed with the council the potential construction plans he would like to see get started this year.

The plans are to resurface 2nd Street South to 15th Street North and construct a roundabout at 2nd Street South, which is currently a traffic light.

Construction from 35th Street North to 27th Street North (near Oak Ridge Elementary school) would also be done during that time.

Nielson says he would like these project done first because MnDot is planning a project along Highway 15 and Benton County Road 1 in 2016. He says all those projects at one time would congest detour routes.

Additional road projects were also talked about including potential roundabouts on Heritage Drive, Scout Drive and 7th Street North, which may not happen until 2016 or 2017.

No action was taken this evening and more discussion will be brought up at the next council meeting.

Pinecone Road is a highly traveled road in Sartell and has been the topic of improvements among residents and the council for several months.
