Pierz Woman Killed in Collision With Semi in Benton County

MAYHEW LAKE - A 79-year-old Pierz woman was killed in a collision with a semi this (Tuesday) morning in Benton County.

The incident happened at about 7:45 a.m. at the intersection of Benton County Road 12 and County Road 78.

Carol Theis was heading south on County Road 78.  Theis initially stopped at the stop sign, then pulled in front of the semi and was struck broadside.  She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The semi was driven by 65-year-old Dale Scholl of Royalton.  He's was taken to St. Cloud Hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.

The crash resulted in the semi spilling its load of corn onto the road, closing the road to traffic, and damaging power lines, which caused an outage.
