STEARNS COUNTY - A Pierz man is in jail after allegedly leading authorities on a chase that resulted in him hitting a Sheriff's squad car.

A Stearns County Sheriff's deputy pulled over a vehicle on Sunday afternoon for a traffic violation on County Road 17 in Holdingford. The deputy found the driver, 31-year-old Aaron Swanson, had warrants for controlled substance violations and also believed he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

When the deputy asked Swanson to perform a field sobriety test, he put the vehicle in drive and ran. Deputies pursued the vehicle for a few miles. The chase ended with Swanson hitting a Sheriff's squad car.

No one was hurt in the chase. Swanson was arrested and taken to Stearns County Jail, where he's being held for court on several charges stemming from the pursuit.

The incident happened just after 6:00 p.m. The Minnesota State Patrol assisted in the incident.
