PIERZ -- A Pierz man is jailed after allegedly leading authorities on a high speed chase Tuesday.

A Morrison County Sheriff's deputy was stopped at an intersection north of Pierz at around 4:15 p.m. when another car pulled up behind the squad car. The driver of the car told the deputy that they had been assaulted earlier in the day by the front seat passenger.

The officer says they asked the passenger, 26-year-old Derrick Miner to step out of the car, when Miner slid into the driver's seat and sped away.

Officers gave chase, reaching speeds of up to 90 miles-an-hour at times, before spinning out the back end of Miner's vehicle using a Pursuit Interruption Technique.

The chase lasted about 10 miles and came to an end along 203rd Street in Buh Township.

Miner was arrested and is awaiting formal charges.
