UNDATED - There have been three drug store robbers in the St. Cloud metro area so far this year.  The Walgreens store on Division street was robbed on January 12th, the Coborn's Pharmacy in St. Joseph was targeted on February 6th, and the latest was the Shopko West Pharmacy on March 1st.

ABC news is reporting we're not alone in what appears to be a growing trend nationally.  They say there's been an 82 percent rise in drug store robberies since 2006.  Police say the surge is being fueled by the nation's prescription drug abuse epidemic.

ABC News Report:
Law enforcement says the robbers are typically drug dealers who know they can make huge profits -- up to $80 a pill -- on the street. But some of the thieves are simply desperate addicts.
