Peter M. Schmitt, 91, Paynesville

June 6, 1925 – September 15, 2016

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 19, 2016 at St. Martin Catholic Church in St. Martin, MN for Peter M. Schmitt, age 91, who died Thursday at the Koronis Manor surrounded by family. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Sunday, September 18, 2016 at the St. Martin Parish Center in St. Martin. Visitation will continue from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m., Monday morning at the parish center. Parish prayers will be at 4:00 p.m., Sunday afternoon. Arrangements are with Wenner Funeral Home, Richmond, MN.

Peter was born in Roscoe, MN to Frank and Crecentia (Drontle) Schmitt. He married Veronice “Verna” Kammers on May 25, 1954 in Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Richmond, MN. Peter served our country in the Korean War. He was a farmer his whole life and enjoyed fishing, baseball and spending time with his family. He played amateur baseball for Jacob’s Prairie. Peter served on the St. Martin Co-op Board and he was a member of the St. Joseph Society of St. Martin.
Survivors include his children, Diane (Harvey) Rothstein, Sharon (Randy) Christman, Kevin, Duane (Joan), Bob, and Janice (Dennis) Schramel; siblings, Richard, Celestine, Ray, Theresa Ann Schriefels, Norb, Dolly Schriefels and Betty Torborg; 14 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Veronice ‘Verna”; two infant daughters, Mary Jo and Marie; siblings, Sylvester, Francis and Rosemary Court.
