Paynesville Native Sparking Worldwide Debate Over Hunting Photo [POLL]

UNDATED – Melissa Bachman is a Paynesville native, who is now A celebrity hunter and television presenter.  She’s making worldwide news this week after posting a picture of herself posing with a lion she had shot and killed in South Africa.

She posted the following statement on her website:

“An incredible day hunting in South Africa! Stalked inside 60-yards on this beautiful male lion…what a hunt!

My first Nyala in South Africa…what a beautiful place and incredible weather!! I’m loving it here…”

The photo has a lot of people commenting and speaking out on the issue, including comedian Ricky Gervais who posted this statement on his Twitter page.

There’s a Facebook page for people outraged by the picture, and the hunter, called “Stop Melissa Bachman” Their page states: “Stop Trophy Hunting. Stop the murder of wildlife for the sport. Stop Melissa Bachman and people like her from pulling the trigger.”

And on the other side of the issue, there’s also a Facebook page for people who support her called “Show Support For Melissa Bachman and resist anti-hunting abuse”  Their page states: “A page to show solidarity and support following the scandal in which National Geographic caved-in to an orchestrated campaign by antis – terminating their contract with the celebrated huntress, Melissa Bachman, for doing exactly what they hired her to do, and doing it with great professionalism and high ethical standards.”
