PAYNESVILLE -- A Paynesville man is jailed and his girlfriend had to be hospitalized after a domestic assault incident early Saturday.

Stearns County Sheriff's deputies were called to a home on Old Lake Road in Paynesville Township at 3:30 a.m. The female caller said she had been stabbed and the suspect left on foot.

Authorities caught up with 39-year-old Raymond Hanson who was walking along a nearby road. Hanson was treated for a knife wound to his abdomen and taken to jail.

The 32-year-old victim told authorities Hanson stomped on her neck, stabbed her in the back and further assaulted her. She was admitted to the hospital for treatment of her injuries.

Hanson is expected to be charged with 2nd degree assault and domestic assault by strangulation. Deputies are still investigating whether attempted murder charges are warranted.
