PRIOR LAKE (AP) - A landscaper who carries a retractable box cutter delivered a fawn after its mother was struck and killed by a car near Prior Lake.

Bill Schulte says he saw the car hit the doe and stopped to help last Sunday. Schulte says the doe was dead, but he saw that she was pregnant. So, he pulled out his box cutter and delivered the fawn. Then Schulte drove 30 miles to the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center of Minnesota in Roseville.

Department of Natural Resources wildlife rehabilitator Polly Rixie is caring for the newborn fawn. Rixie says that within two weeks, the fawn will be drinking an entire 16-ounce bottle. Rixie says it will take all summer to get the fawn ready to be released into the wild.
