ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Parts of two major freeways are closed this weekend, complicating travel for motorists in the Twin Cities.

Interstate 94 in St. Paul is closed in both directions between Highway 280 and Interstate 35E so that Xcel Energy crews can relocate power lines in the area. The posted detour routes motorists onto Highway 36.

In the western suburbs, northbound Interstate 494 is closed between Interstate 394 and Interstates 94/694 for repairs and upgrades. That stretch runs through Minnetonka, Plymouth and Maple Grove. The southbound lanes in that same area will be closed for a few hours starting at 10 p.m. Sunday. Highway 169 is the recommended detour.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation says both freeways will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, in time for the morning rush.
