ST. CLOUD - Over 1,700 students graduated from St. Cloud State University on Sunday.

Two separate ceremonies were held at 10:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Alfredo Azevedo de Olivera, a magna cum undergraduate from Itajai Brazil delivered the address for the first ceremony. Irene Alejandra Ramirez, a magna cum laude undergraduate from Eagle Pass, Texas, delivered the address during the second ceremony.

The guest of honor at both ceremonies was Derrick Swartz, vice chancellor at Nelson Mandella Metropolitan University in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Swartz was a civil rights activist during apartheid and helped in establishing a democratic society.

St. Cloud Mayor Dave Kleis also spoke at both ceremonies, Kleis was a 1989 graduate from St. Cloud State.
