LITTLE FALLS -- A 37-year-old man is dead after he was shot and killed by police early this (Thursday) morning.

Morrison County Sheriff Michel Wetzel says they got a call just before 12:30 a.m. about a suicidal man with a gun in the city of Little Falls.

Sheriff's deputies and Little Falls police found the man as he was leaving a residence in Little Falls. Officers tried to pull him over and the man then pulled into a driveway. The sheriff says that's when the man exited the car armed with a shotgun.

Wetzel says the man disobeyed repeated attempts to drop the gun and two Little Falls police officers and two sheriff's deputies fired at the man. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is now investigating the case.

The victim's name hasn't been released.
