Funeral services will be at 3:00 P.M. on Friday, June 10, 2016 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Sartell, MN for Donald William Peterson, who died on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at Quiet Oaks Hospice, St. Cloud, MN. The Reverend Eberhard Schefers will be the celebrant. Burial will be at Assumption Cemetery, St. Cloud, MN. Visitation for the public will be from 2 P.M. to 3 P.M. on Friday in the Gathering Space of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Sartell.

Don was born in Little Falls, MN to Bill and Eulalia (Proulx) Peterson. He attended St. John’s University and later spent three years in the United States Navy. Upon returning he attended and received his BS and MS in Forestry at the University of Minnesota. He then worked in Louisiana, Michigan, North Carolina and South Carolina as a forester and supervisor for the U.S. Forest Service.

While working in South Carolina, he met his wife Charleen. They were married on April 8, 1972. This marriage was blessed with four children. They made their home in Columbia, SC, until they moved to St. Joseph, MN in 1989. This has been their home since that time.

Don was happiest with his family and when he was in touch with nature. He loved being in the woods, watching wildlife and serving God.

He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and also a member of Third Degree, Knights of Columbus Council #5276 both of Sartell, MN.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son James, two brothers, Richard and George and one sister Jeanne.

He leaves behind his loving wife Charleen, sons, Bill (Stacy) Peterson, Richie (Anna) Peterson, daughter Cathy Peterson, and grandchildren Lexi, Olivia, Vivian and James Donald (JD) born May 31, 2016, one brother Jerry (Elaine) Peterson, and three sisters, Carol Furnstahl, Eleanor Abrahamson, and Mary Louise (Lanny) Schultz, other relatives and many friends.
