ST. PAUL  (AP) -- Former Minnesota Congressman Jim Oberstar says another run for the 8th district isn't in his future.

The veteran Democratic congressman was defeated by Republican Chip Cravaack in November. Speculation about another run surfaced recently after a labor luncheon in Duluth.

But, Oberstar says things have changed and that he's moving in another direction. Oberstar plans to do some consulting work on transportation and will be a visiting scholar on transportation at the University of Minnesota's Humphrey Institute.

Oberstar was chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. He was elected in 1974 and says serving as a member of Congress was a great privilege.
