Norval Dean Backlund, age 69, of Princeton, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at the farm. He was born on December 8, 1945 in Princeton, MN the son of Normal and Bernice (Green) Backlund.

Norval was a lifelong Princeton resident, graduating from Princeton High School in 1963. He worked as a Commercial Carpenter for the union but also enjoyed farming after retirement. Norval enjoyed having his morning coffee with the group at Shooters. He loved the great outdoors and going ice fishing while enjoying a Schmidt beer, camping, to garage sales and auctions. Most of all Norval loved his grandchildren. Norval will always be remembered saying “I’m not the boss; I just know what everyone’s supposed to be doing right now.” He will be dearly missed.

Norval (affectionately known as “Grumpy”) is survived by his wife Jan “Granny”; children, Tim (Dawn) Backlund, Jeff (Lynn) Backlund and Jill (Philip) Shrader; step-children, Jo (Michael) Arnold, Jackie (Curt) Bekius, Jenny (Jim) Santema, Karla (Aaron) Johnson and Kevin (Wendy) Berndt; grandchildren, Trista, Hunter, Luke, Antonio and Skyler Backlund; Shawn, Ken, Brad and Doug Bekius; Kayla, Corey and Craig Santema; Seth Johnson and Blake Berndt; siblings, Mary (Ben) Kunkel and Bob (Corki) Backlund; along with many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held from 4-8PM Sunday, March 22, 2015 at Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home in Princeton and will continue one hour prior to the service on Monday. Funeral Services will be held at 11AM Monday, March 23, 2015 at Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home in Princeton. Interment will be in Oak Knoll Cemetery in Princeton.
