DULUTH, (AP) – A 90-year-old zoo in northern Minnesota has restored a historic pavilion built in the 1930s.

Duluth’s Lake Superior Zoo celebrated the renovation Wednesday with local leaders and community members. A desert tortoise and an 11-foot boa were also in attendance.

The pavilion was originally built as part of a Works Progress Administration project. The CEO says the space used to host many community events.

But the zoo’s historic pavilion began to decay throughout time. It sat vacant for the past five years.

The updated pavilion now doubles the zoo’s space for educational programs.
