VIRGINIA (AP) - Authorities say they have arrested a 44-year-old man in connection with an 83-year-old woman's death in 1987 in northern Minnesota.

The arrest was announced Wednesday by the Virginia Police Department and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. The Virginia, Minnesota, man faces a second-degree murder charge in Leona Mary Maslowski's death.

Police say Maslowski was found beaten and stabbed to death in her Virginia apartment. According to authorities, the suspect's fingerprints and palm print were found on a door near Maslowski's body.

A criminal complaint says the suspect told investigators he was at a party above Maslowski's apartment. According to the complaint, he said he went into her apartment to steal alcohol, and that he assaulted her after she confronted him.

The suspect is set to be arraigned Thursday.
