Norm was born to the late Isaac and Deborah Howard on November 13, 1922 in Santiago, MN. He attended school at District 48 near the Nels Simonson farm, the home farm of Ingwald Jenson. Norm worked on the farm with his Dad until going to the Army from 1943-1945 at which time he was honorably discharged. While in the Army, he was headed to fight in the 2nd World War. While on ship, the war ended so he spent one year in the Philippines, Leyte and Manila as a Medium Auto Mechanic. After being discharged from the Army, Norm farmed with his Dad on the Jack Storlies’ farm.

Norm married Shirley Ann Stay on September 25, 1948. Norm and Shirley farmed for two more years and then moved to Minneapolis in 1950 where he worked at Bury and Carlson during the summer months on road construction and then worked at the airport (what is now MSP) plowing snow during the winter months. In 1957 he bought the Lubisweiller Farm by the St. Francis River, near Santiago and farmed as well as drove a milk truck for two years. In 1963 Norm started working for Federal Cartridge Corporation in Anoka and remained there for 23 years until his retirement in 1986. Norm loved to drive vehicles so he drove a school bus and worked for the Princeton Funeral Home for 12 years. Norm lived his life to the fullest, was a man of few words and lived his life by example.

Norm enjoyed being outside no matter the weather, hunting, fishing eating peanuts, camping, and driving anything that had wheels and loved being with his family.
