The St. Paul city attorney said Friday that "there is no path to a criminal case" against former Sgt. Jeff Rothecker.

Rothecker resigned from the police department last month. His resignation came a month after his Facebook post.

Community members had pressed for criminal charges against Rothecker. Rothecker had been on paid administrative leave, and his resignation halted any discipline he could have faced.

The city of St. Paul paid Rothecker $7,500 in exchange for his agreeing to not sue and waiving all claims.

Former St. Paul NAACP president Nathaniel Khaliq says he was disappointed with the city attorney's decision.
