UNDATED -- The Minnesota State High School League has thrown a curve ball at area schools looking at switching conferences.

St. Cloud's Tech and Apollo high schools have expressed interest in leaving the Central Lakes Conference, and joining the Mississippi 8, in an effort to avoid being placed in the same football conference with Grand Rapids, Duluth East and Duluth Denfeld.  However, a League committee announced yesterday (Tuesday) a recommendation that would place Grand Rapids in the Central Lakes, and the two Duluth schools in the Mississippi 8.

District 742 Superintendent Bruce Watkins says they weren't prepared for those schools to be split into different conferences.

The decision doesn't become final until the League's Board of Directors votes on it in early December.

Watkins says the St. Cloud schools are committed to the C-L-C for next year, and they're keeping their options open after that.
