UNDATED - Minneapolis' Nicole Curtis has become one of the top stars on HGTV and the DIY Networks, with her show Rehab Addict.

Today (Thursday) on the News @ Noon show on WJON she talks about career and the show.

Curtis specializes is refurbishing old condemned homes mostly in Minneapolis and Detroit.

She says she bought her first home when she was 18-years-old, and she learned the craft of remodeling on her own over the years.

Curtis says she thinks her show is popular because it's a real-life look into working on old homes.  She says they use just one camera, and they've been shooting the show for four years straight now.  Typically they do about five homes a year.

Curtis says she always focuses on old houses because she doesn't want them to be torn down.

Her best advice for others who want to tackle remodeling an older home: Follow the needs of the house and not your own needs. Older homes should not be transformed into open floor plans. And stick to the era of the home.
