PAYNESVILLE -- A New Ulm man is going to be fine after his ATV broke through the ice on Lake Koronis in Paynesville.

Stearns County sheriff's officials were called to the north side of the lake at 2:45 p.m. Sunday. Deputies discovered an ATV partially submerged in about three feet of water and a man who was already out of the water.

The driver of the machine, 49-year-old Mark Guggisberg, was heading southwest on the lake when he told deputies the sun was in his eyes and he was unable to see unsafe ice conditions.

The sheriff's office is urging everyone to use caution when heading out onto the ice.
