WAITE PARK -- Stearns County is close to opening another swimming quarry. Quarry 11 at the Stearns County Quarry Park & Nature Preserve will provide more gradual slopes, swimming platform, bathrooms and picnic shelter for families.

County Parks Director Peter Theismann says they've been busy preparing to open the swimming hole for the season.  Theismann says park staff built a swimming platform this winter and placed it out onto the ice so it's ready to go when the quarry opens for swimming this summer.  Staff also worked on landscaping to make it easier to access the quarry.  Theismann says the bathrooms are ready to go and the picnic shelter should be completed soon.

The county used a Legacy Amendment grant and a Bernick's Foundation grant to fund the $151,000 project.

The quarry will be a swim at your own risk swimming facility, the same as the current Quarry 2 swimming hole.

Quarry 11 is expected to open in the next few weeks.
