WAITE PARK -- The anticipated new swimming quarry is ready for you to jump in.

Quarry 11 at the Stearns County Quarry Park & Nature Preserve was officially opened this (Tuesday) afternoon.

County Parks Director Peter Theismann says this quarry provides some new elements the others don't.

"People we looking for something new, so we have some lower ledges, a sand beach and put in a dock that was built by our park staff," says Theismann.

The quarry also has a picnic shelter, bathrooms and easy access to attract swimmers.

County Park Board Member Mark Bromenschenkel says the quarry will become a new hot spot.

"Staff did a great job out here, it looks great and I think people are really going to enjoy it," says Bromenschenkel.

The county used a Legacy Amendment grant and a Bernick's Foundation grant to fund the $151,000 project.

The quarry will be a swim at your own risk swimming facility, just like the current Quarry 2 swimming hole.
