New School Taxes Harder to Find on Election Day

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Minnesota voters overwhelmingly voted to renew school levies on their property taxes, but were less enthusiastic about paying more.

The Minnesota School Boards Association reports voters approved nearly 80 percent of operating levy questions on the ballot Tuesday.

Spokesman Greg Abbott says 58 of the 114 school districts who went to their voters asked them to renew existing levies. Of those, 57 were approved. Only voters in the Rocori school district turned aside a renewal.

However, many districts put several questions to their voters, giving them the option of both renewing a levy and voting to raise their taxes.

For example, voters in the Anoka-Hennepin district approved a renewal, narrowly approved additional money for technology but rejected new money for future district expenses.
