ST. CLOUD -- A new music series is putting the spotlight on local singer-songwriters. Jon Theis is organizing the series called "Granite City Sound".

He says when you come to the show you'll hear a lot of original music.

Yeah, the original stuff that we're writing.  Like tonight I'm going to sing songs like the one I have about the Sauk Rapids tornado.  Chris Laumb comes to mind, he also writes a lot of songs about this area and the local history.

Theis says he's got five showcases set-up so far, one each month through May.

They'll be held on the second level of the Pickled Loon in downtown St. Cloud from 7:00 until 10:00 p.m. He says he wanted an earlier start time to cater to a crowd that enjoys original music, but doesn't want to stay out super late.

There will be three artists per show, with each one playing for about 50 minutes. There's a $5 cover charge with all of the money going to the artists.

The first "Granite City Sound" showcase is:
Friday, January 19th
Saturday, February 17th
Friday, March 16th
Friday, April 20th
Friday, May 18th
