ST. CLOUD -- If you have driven along Division Street recently you may have notice a new LED billboard lighting the way.

The billboard was installed about a week ago in the parking lot of the former Marco building next to Red Lobster and Sells Auto.

St. Cloud Planning and Community Development Director Matt Glaseman says while LED signs are not anything new, he says many businesses have been asking to convert their old signage.

"It's been out their for about 10 years, communities have been dealing with limitations brightness and the frequency that the messages change over and it's really been an interest for many businesses because the costs of the technology has become cheaper over time," says Glaseman.

The city's ordinance states billboards must be 750 feet away from other signage and can't be flashing.

Glaseman says even with the LED lights the billboard won't be too distracting to drivers at night.
