ROCHESTER (AP) - A herd of dairy cattle is being nursed back to health after being taken from a farmer in Winona County.

A team of volunteers is helping the 52 cows, yearlings, calves and a bull recover after the animals were recently found emaciated and badly neglected. Four animals were euthanized because the damage to their health was irreversible.

The herd is being treated at an undisclosed location near Lanesboro. The sheriff's department is investigated and may recommend animal neglect charges.
