MINNEAPOLIS -- Over a month ago Minneapolis musician George Maurer started biking across the country to honor his friend and raise money for cancer research.

Maurer began his journey on a mission to bike 3,600 miles from Seattle to Boston in 48 days.

On Wednesday the 48 Across the 48 Carolyn Held Memorial Bike Ride came to an end.

He averaged around 75 miles a day on his trip posting videos and photos along the way.

The ride was to honor his friend Carolyn Held, who lost her fight with cancer in 2012, and a fundraiser for cancer research.

The money he raised goes to the Mayo Clinic Cancer Center.

Maurer says he was inspired by Held and used that as motivation when times got tough.

Maurer says he is very proud of what he accomplished during his journey and is thankful for everyone that donated and supported him over the last few months.
