Mood Acrimonious as Vikings Stadium Talks Continue
ST. PAUL (AP) - Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton plans to meet with GOP legislative leaders a day after they proposed a new approach to financing a Vikings stadium.
The Democratic governor called the proposal "a hare-brained scheme" and "extremely, extremely disappointing" and says he'll meet with lawmakers Wednesday afternoon.
Dayton and Democratic caucus leaders are pushing the Republican-controlled Legislature to vote on a separate $975 million stadium bill negotiated between the administration, lawmakers, the team and the city of Minneapolis.
Top Republicans unveiled outlines of a new plan Tuesday, without filling in key details. They're proposing a roofless stadium with a smaller state contribution. The contribution would be backed with general state bonds instead of the gambling expansion contemplated in the original proposal.
A House Republican spokeswoman says the new proposal's details are forthcoming.
