MN Craft Brewery Receives Hilarious Cease & Desist Letter from Bud Light
Following a hilarious act of defiance, a local Minnesota craft brewery received a cease and desist letter from the big bad "king" of beer - Bud Light.
On Friday, December 1, Modist Brewing Company in the North Loop Minneapolis was set to release their new Dilly Dilly Mosaic Double IPA, inspired by and named after the incredibly quotable line from Bud Light's latest commercial series - "dilley dilley."
However, on the same day Dilly Dilly the craft beer was to release, Modist received a cease and desist letter from Bud Light...by scroll. From a real live medieval announcement-maker. Written and spoken in olde English vernacular. And it's hilarious.
Congrats on the launch of your new brew Dilly Dilly Mosaic Double IPA. Let it be known that we believe that any beer shared between friends is a fine beer indeed, and we are duly flattered by your loyal tribute.
However, 'Dilley Dilley' is the motto of our realm, so we humbly ask that you keep this to a limited edition one-can only run."
The letter didn't end there, though, as the beer king extended a beery olive branch to the small craft brewery...
Also, we will be in your fair citadel of Minneapolis for the Super Bowl and would love to offer two thrones to said game for two of your finest employees to watch the festivities and enjoy a few Bud Lights...on us."
This is probably one of the funniest and most clever marketing moves I've ever seen, and while I'll always be a fan of craft beer and the little guy, I have to applaud Bud Light for how they responded.
