ST. PAUL (AP) -- The Mississippi River is starting to cover Harriet Island near downtown St. Paul.

The river has risen about five feet in the past three days to just under 18 feet in St. Paul on Sunday. It's projected to crest just above 19 feet around Wednesday. Major flood stage is 17 feet.

Many people flocked to the riverfront Sunday, before the city closes Harriet Island Park on Monday.

Meanwhile, the Mississippi River here in St. Cloud is holding steady at about 6 1/2 feet, about a foot and a half below action stage.
