Minnesota’s GOP Delegates Say Time Is Right For Trump

ST. PAUL (AP) - Minnesota Republican convention delegates say the conditions seem better than ever for the party to take back the White House.

They say presidential nominee Donald Trump isn't your typical Republican - and Democratic rival Hillary Clinton has some work to do with a party base that delivered a defeat in the March caucus.

Minnesota hasn't voted for a Republican presidential candidate since 1972. But, delegate Pat Anderson says Minnesota voters tend to be rebellious and look for candidates who are anti-Washington or anti-establishment. Reform Party candidate Jesse Ventura served as Minnesota's governor from 1999 to 2003 and later became an Independent.

DFL Party Chairman Ken Martin says he wouldn't be shocked to see a close race. Martin says anyone who lived in Minnesota through the 1998 election shouldn't dismiss Trump.
