ISANTI (AP) — Authorities say a 19-year-old Minnesota woman didn't hear the freight train that struck and critically injured her because she was hearing headphones.

The Isanti County sheriff's office was called to the accident Wednesday afternoon. Officers found the rural Isanti woman conscious and alert on the side of the railroad tracks after being struck by a Burlington Northern Santa Fe train.

The victim was airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center and is in critical but stable condition.

Authorities say she was walking along the tracks with two men who saw the train and yelled at her, but she didn't hear them or the train because she was wearing headphones.

The men also tried to grab the woman before the train struck her.

The accident is under investigation.
