Minnesota Woman Injected With Steroid Linked To Fungal Meningitis Outbreak

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - A Minnesota woman injected with a steroid linked to an outbreak of fungal meningitis say she's worried that her frequent head and neck pain mean she has the disease.

Melissa Stevens of Maple Grove was being tested Monday for the disease. She was injected in August at a pain clinic that received a steroid product linked to the outbreak.

The 39-year-old weight loss coach and fitness instructor has suffered frequent headaches and neck pain since she was in a car accident about five years ago, and she says she knows those can also be symptoms of meningitis.

Minnesota has three of the 105 cases confirmed so far in nine states.

Minnesota health officials have been contacting people who might have been injected with the recalled steroid.
