Minnesota Woman Accused of Smothering Baby Son in 2009

The Hennepin County Attorney's office charged 25-year-old Ashleigh Jennifer Casey of Farmington after she allegedly tried the same act on her daughter this spring.

St. Louis Park police were called March 12, 2009, on a report of a baby not breathing. Police found Casey's 3-month-old son lying on the basement floor. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The complaint says an investigator learned this May that in Mille Lacs County Casey had taken her 8-month-old daughter to a hospital several times, but doctors found nothing wrong with her.

The case may involve a mental illness that causes parents to harm their children in an effort to seek attention.
