Minnesota Senior Home May Have Impeded Investigation

HERMANTOWN, Minn. (AP) - Administrators at a senior living home in northern Minnesota may have impeded an investigation into the sexual assault of an 89-year-old resident.

A report says the allegations are outlined in recently filed court documents.

A caregiver at the Edgewood Vista home in Hermantown admitted last year to having sex with the resident. Court documents say an administrator claimed the resident had flirted with her assailant and fabricated the assault.

The state Department of Health investigated the assault and held the caregiver responsible, not the facility.

Roberta Opheim is the State Ombudsman for Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities. She says the facility should have been held accountable.

Edgewood Management Group of Grand Forks, N.D., owns the Hermantown facility. It says it cooperated fully with authorities.
